Badminton coach training now available

Want to get more involved in the sport you know and love? Why not become an Assistant Coach?

Badminton England is running a ‘Level 1’ coaching course in Gosport in the coming months, and this could be your chance to improve your own understanding of the sport, and help others too.

What is the qualification?

Level 1 is the entry point into the coaching world. It means you learn about hitting technique, movement on the court, singles and doubles tactics, and how to teach these to others.

What’s more, it means you’re qualified to help with delivering badminton sessions, and is a good addition to a CV.

Read more about what the course involves here.

What support is available?

If you’re an SBC Member, and would be willing to volunteer your time to help the club community we could support you to get your Level 1 coaching qualification. This might involve mentoring from, or opportunities to shadow, the existing Level 1 or Level 2 coaches at the club.

There’s currently also a Badminton England coaching bursary available, which may reimburse you up some of the costs if you meet certain requirements. This includes volunteering your time with local club sessions. For more information about the Badminton England bursary, ask a committee member.

How do I sign up?

The course costs £225 (or £215 if you’re a Badminton England member) and runs over non-consecutive three Sundays, at Gosport Leisure Centre:

  • Day 1 – Sun 24 Apr- 9:30am – 4:30pm
  • Day 2 – Sun 5 May – 9:30am – 4:30pm
  • Day 3 – Sun 19 May – 9:30am – 4:30pm

Register and book via Badminton England’s website by Friday 12th April.

A couple of SBC members (myself included) have already expressed an interest or booked onto the course, so there’ll be a friendly face or two around.

Hope to see you there!
