League update November 2018

Published by Tom on

Welcome to the first League match summary for Southsea Badminton Club. With the 2018/2019 League Season well underway I’ll give a quick status on each of the club’s teams and look forward to the key fixtures scheduled for November.

As outlined a few weeks ago, we’ve entered four teams into the Portsmouth and Havant Badminton Association (PHBA) League for the 2018/2019 Season.

The PHBA League is bigger than ever this year so we are hoping to see some fierce competition amongst old rivals and new competitors alike!

SBC Mens 1

Southsea Mens 1 have a tough year ahead of them after being placed into Division 1 of the PHBA League. The first division always draws some well established teams and we’re expecting to see some extremely close games as the season progresses.

Results

The first two games of the season were held on unfamiliar grounds but the team are hopeful that valuable points will be earned when the opposing teams come to play on home ground in the return matches early next year.

Date Home team Away team Score
8 Oct Gosport & Notorious Mens SBC Men 1 12-1
23 Oct Alma Mater Mens SBC Men 1 10-3

SBC Mens 2

Southsea Mens 2 have this year been placed into Division 3 of the PHBA League. Division 3 is going to be one to watch this year and includes some strong teams including last years runners up, Cowplain Mens 2 and newcomers University of Chichester Mens.

Results

A confident start from the Southsea Mens 2 team who managed to gain a vital win off Cowplain, setting a great tone for the season. Cowplain played incredibly well fighting to the end of every game so were unlucky not to walk away with a few more points.

Date Home team Away team Score
8 Oct SBC Men 2 Cowplain Men 2 12-2

SBC Women in action

SBC Women

With the SBC Women’s team being the newcomer to the Ladies division they’ll have to fight hard to knock last year’s winners, Portsmouth Ladies, from their position at the top!

Results

In their first match of the season against defending champions Portsmouth, the SBC pairs fought hard through some amazing rallies, and were incredibly unlucky not to come away with any points.

Date Home team Away team Score
22 Oct SBC Women Portsmouth Ladies 0-12

SBC Mixed

The mixed division is in for an interesting season this year – with 3 new teams and the loss of last year’s runners up, it’s anyone’s competition!

Results

A fantastic start to the season for the SBC mixed team! Whilst the team didn’t quite manage the victory, they fought hard and came away with 6 points having taken the opposition to 3 sets in 3 games!

Date Home team Away team Score
10 Oct SBC Mixed Cowplain Mixed 6-9

Upcoming League Fixtures

Below is the next fixture for each of our League Teams; November is shaping up to be an extremely busy month for everyone!
